The Arab community of Ottawa, taxi drivers and the trade union CAW are understandably fuming over this matter including the CAW President Ken Lewenza. Such a situation of savagery is regrettable given the fact that the Ottawa Police is made up of very fine men and women who have worked very hard to improve race relations the main driver of which being the need to pacify the anger and frustration of the African Caribbeans who had been unfairly subjected to extreme police brutality for the longest time. I personally know of many such outstanding men and women like the late great Police Chief Thomas Flanagan, retired Deputy Police Chief Larry Hill, Police Officer Ken Friday, Deputy Police Chief Sue O’Sullivan and many others mentioned in my poem Police Officer Jocelyn Elgin. It must be hurtful to these police officers, including Flanagan who must be rolling in his grave, to see such hard won gains being reversed by one individual who decided to deviate from the high road. Whenever we hear of these things such as another police officer who butted a South African Mr. Maxwell Mcatshelwa with a baton we shudder out of concern for our non-Anglo Saxon children and brothers who remain forever exposed to such random acts of savage attacks.

Now back to the topic at hand. I don’t think you intended to draw conclusions of me casting the English axioms of economic utility in a less desirable light vis-à-vis the African axioms of mutual benefit. I never intended to do that and I don’t believe if there is anyone out there who can make a solid argument that pitches one set of axioms as better than another. The English set of axioms is solving a specific dialectical problem in the same say that an African set of axioms is solving the African problem domain. If ever we were to choose a set of axioms over another we would have to defer to the wisdom of the African jungle which says that the fundamental premise of all organisms is the supreme law of self-preservation which overrides all other considerations. A set of axioms that satisfies this premise is in the best interest of the organism a fact enshrined in the poem Removable Discontinuity as follows:

“to traverse a scented path
to return to see the babies
a discontinuity from afar
the mouth of demise is ajar
a removable discontinuity
as defined in the African tree
of mathematical knowledge” Vusi Moloi © A Goodbye To My Little Troubles, Arizona, USA.

Zulumathabo! In it you said that, "The English regard education as an economic utility", while "...the Africans who regard education as a form of prestige" with its implied credibility and consequent social benefit. You then went on to describe examples of both systems.

You seem to tacitly imply that the African axioms are better, and paint the English method as less desirable. On that point I kind of disagree. The actions of English, with respect to elders being "thrown away" when no longer useful are actually perfectly logical axioms based on the English axiom of economic utility. On the other hand, the African action of keeping credible elders around to teach the next generation are also perfectly logical based on the African axiom of prestige, credibility and social betterment.

However, you have not explained when and why the African axioms are better than the English axioms. Can you elaborate?

Best regards, Jay
